Hello there! My name is Shelia Manning, and I graduated from Old Dominion University with a BS in Psychology and a minor in Biology.
After working in business management nationwide, I returned to Virginia to consult for a large food company, focusing specifically on gluten-free diets. During this time, I had the opportunity to meet with dietitians, doctors, and individuals dealing with Celiac disease and gluten sensitivity. I saw firsthand how supporting wellness through diet could change a person from not just surviving but to thriving.
This realization led me to pursue naturopathic medicine and earn my Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine (ND) from Bastyr University in Seattle, Washington. While trained as a primary care physician, I developed a particular interest in Oncology.
Following graduation, I completed a 2-year oncology residency at Goshen Center for Cancer Care, providing integrative cancer care and general health support to the Goshen community. I completed the Plant-Based Nutrition Certificate at T Colin Campbell Center for Nutritional Studies at eCornell and currently completing additional courses at Plantrician University, which provides evidence-based education and therapeutic use of plant-based nutrition as the foundation of lifestyle medicine.
Today, my passions have expanded to encompass women’s health, digestive health, environmental medicine, weight loss, thyroid and endocrine health, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia and other rheumatologic illnesses, disordered sleep, cardiovascular disease, and healthy aging and longevity.
I’m honored to be able to help support health in Southwest Virginia, and I’m committed to tailoring my approach to your unique needs. I’m excited to walk alongside you on your journey towards optimal wellness.
